A major reason individuals do not desire to be alone with their thoughts is because guilt will come to the surface. Great peace awaits those who surrender to that guilt while allowing the Truth to bless them.(1)  When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways. (Acts 3:26)

Those who have surrendered to God find that they would rather think positive thoughts than watch TV or read a book.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me–put it into practice.

And the God of peace will be with you.

(Philippians 4:8-9)

Instead of grumbling about the weather, politics or the faults of those in the church, such individuals put their faith into action by thinking about whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable.

Blessed is the church where leadership really can be followed: Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me–put it into practice. 

If these two things are present then great peace of mind awaits those who obey: And the God of peace will be with you.

While psychology might discover the basics of human motivation there is no substitute for the power of the Living God actually working in a person’s life.

Two things to consider:

1. Psychology’s foundation is based on human teaching and traditions that will always fall short in transforming a person. Psychology is, in reality, a philosophy, a religion.

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. (Colossians 2:8)

2. The Living God is eager to protect your mind if you will surrender all to His will. There is no comparison between psychology and the Living God.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
